Eleven IS louder than ten!

Auf wired.com ist ein Interview mit Christopher Guest, der 1984 in der (vermutlich) großartigen* Mockumentary (engl. to mock – sich lustig machen, engl. documentary – Dokumentarfilm) mitgespielt hat.

In dem Film wird die Geschichte einer britische Heavy Metal-Band erzählt, die ein Comeback in den USA versucht. Und das Beste: aus der fiktiven Heavy Metal Band wurde eine Echte und die Schauspieler aka Heavy Metaller mussten bestimmt immer ein bisschen Grinsen, wenn sie z.B. beim “Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert” im Wembley Statium vor 72.000 Leuten auf der Bühne standen.
Auch im Videospiel „Guitar Hero“ lautet einer der Sätze, die während des Ladens angezeigt werden: „Eleven IS louder than ten!“ Super!

Wired.com: Technology has democratized entertainment, but it also has saturated it with sameness.

Christopher Guest: Well, the fact that you have a camera doesn’t mean you can use it. Having GarageBand doesn’t make you a talented musician. Sure, if you have a song in your head, you can get it down. But it’s worse with video: People are wandering around with cameras shooting anything they see without learning the value of story. Giving people the means to do something doesn’t mean their stuff is going to be good, which is a cruel lesson. There has always been crap out there, but now there is just more of it. We’re at five to midnight in the Roman Empire right now.

ich bin begeistert, weil es so schön absurd ist
da gibt es bestimmt auch noch mehr zu schreiben, über die Relevanz von Mockumentaries oder über die Übergänge von Fiktion zu Realität…
oder über das Interview und den Ausschnitt hier: das Werkzeuge nicht unbedingt ausreichen um schöne Dinge zu machen, aber ach… :-)
ich warte erstmal auf die bestellte DVD
